Work With Us!

Urban Ghosts is currently on the look out for talented individuals to work with us on the following projects:

Writers & Photographers to Create Unique Neighbourhood Guides

Do you love the urban landscape and have a passion for the local community that you live in? Are you an observant individual who notices things that most people simply pass by? Are you good with a camera and eager to have your work featured on one of the UK’s most exciting offbeat travel and lifestyles websites? If so, we want to hear from you!

We are looking aspiring writers and photographers to create fun, snappy Neighbourhood Guides. Examples of neighbourhoods might be Shoreditch, Notting Hill, Clapham and Battersea in London, but they could also be tiny conservation areas hidden away in the backstreets. These micro-neighbourhoods may only encompass a road or two, but nevertheless will exude a unique vibe – be it the locals, the architecture, boutiques, bars and so on, or a combination of those things.

Combined with brilliant photographs that capture the atmosphere of the area, the ideal (micro) neighbourhood guide will run to no more than 550 words.Topics covered will vary from one neighbourhood to the next, but should focus heavily on what makes that neighbourhood so special, why it is unique, and most importantly the human element that helps bring it to life.

If this sounds like your ideal assignment, we’d love to hear from you! Please get in touch to tell us a bit about yourself, which neighbourhood (and city) you would like to feature, and why you’re well placed to produce that guide.

Local Editors & Contributors

Are you a journalist or aspiring writer with a passion for your local area/community, and the ability to see beyond the surface to the hidden history, offbeat locations, urban art and lifestyle that lurks beyond? If so, we’d love you to get in touch!

Urban Ghosts is a blog about hidden history and offbeat travel with a strong focus on abandoned places and urban exploration, adaptive reuse, art & design and more. To date Urban Ghosts has featured content from across the world, and that will remain the core objective of the site. But we’re also seeking to connect the global to the local, by developing community content streams that reach the heart of our communities, no matter how small, from entire cities to tiny micro-neighbourhoods.

At Urban Ghosts we believe that everywhere – even just a road or a building – has a story to tell. These stories are thecore reason for our focus on hidden history, but also serve to turn neighbourhoods into destinations to be sought out and experienced today.

If you would like to become a Community Editor, responsible for researching, curating and reporting the unique happenings and places on your own door step, please get in touch telling us why you’re a good fit for this role, and outlining some ideas of articles you would like to contribute. Those interested should be able to deliver a minimum of one or two killer articles per week.

Similarly, to become a Local Contributor, less constrained by delivery timelines and able to contribute as much or as little as you like whenever your schedule allows, please also outline three ideas, why you are passionate about them and why they are a good fit for Urban Ghosts.
