Ossuaries are both fascinating and macabre places, but provide an economical solution to the problem of overcrowded churchyards. By categorising and stacking bones in a sort of grizzly storage system, countless human skeletons could be interred in a single tomb, bringing a whole new meaning to the term “bone structure”.
