I sailed five times on the Indy and the Connie...their demise breaks my heart. But part of me rejoices that they rest at the bottom of the sea, rather than as scrap. And my glorious memories of both of them will be with me forever.

I have thought kinda the same in the past; you know, where are the photos? But, when my husband and I just happened to see the two white planes with a passenger airliner type shape, it was just by accident that we looked up and saw the cloud move away from them leaving them exposed. If I had known we were going to see something, I would have had a video camera to record the event but sadly you have only my saying I witnessed it. Maybe there are folks out there who just make things up but there are just as many who don't. Solid evidence could also apply to you. How do we know you really exist; no photos and only your friends to say they have actually seen you... Same dumb comparison. I hope you get your 'solid evidence' someday but until then, take it easy on the name calling. Have a blessed day!!!

Amazing. There is hope yet. In the UK some of these abandoned railways and associated buildings are coming back to life. Sometimes as railways again... what goes around comes around. I would blog on this topic but existing one (on music) is keeping me more than busy!

Wonderful site but the photos of "abandoned German tanks" is mislabelled. The first 2 photos are British tanks, the 3rd is an American M3 and the 4th picture shows a Soviet T-34 leading the abandoned column.

I'm surprised that there is no mention of the airfields in the San Francisco Bay Area. With the large number of military fields in the area, I wonder what criteria determined which would make the list. There's Moffett Field where the army based its zeppelin fleet. One huge hangar is still standing. There's Crissy Field, another army air base, right on the bay between the Golden Gate Bridge and The Presidio. It is now a park that has been restored to indigenous plant life. Elsewhere, there's Treasure Island once the base for PanAm Clippers flying to the Far East and Alameda Naval Air Station, with runways still intact, hosts numerous film crews and the USS Hornet. But one, from my childhood in Grand Rapids Michigan, was the Roger B. Chaffee airport. Built to honor the hometown astronaut, it was soon replaced by the Gerald R. Ford Int'l and is now known only as Roger B. Chaffee Memorial Drive.

So sad to see places like this where people gathered in prayer. A shame there was no way to rejuvenate the building for some other use.
