Abandoned Railway Carriage Repurposed as a Bridge

Abandoned railroad carriage repurposed as a bridge, or so it seems (Image: Rennett Stowe)

In July 2013, photographer Rennett Stowe snapped this abandoned railway carriage resting on a rocky expanse of California coastline. Has the thoroughly derelict train car body been repurposed as a bridge, or perhaps a platform for fishermen? There is precedent for such adaptive reuse, as featured previously on WebUrbanist. Alternatively, it’s rusting, decrepit form may be little more than a blight on the otherwise pristine landscape, but it makes for an interesting photo subject.
