For her series Broken Houses, artist Ofra Lapid sought inspiration from an amateur photographer who has documented decaying and abandoned buildings across North Dakota. The series includes crumbling miniature houses and neglected barns, some merely dilapidated, others completely collapsed.
Ofra uses paper and tiny wood “beams” to create the models, which are then photographed against a grey background.
The results are astonishingly detailed and realistic. As Flavorwire points out: “…the houses appear to be plucked straight out of their origins and transported to a photography studio.” Ofra Lapid was born in 1982 in Tel Aviv and currently lives in New York City.
