Like other isolated archipelagos, the Faroe Islands boast a number of ghost towns and abandoned places, from remote fishing and farming communities to defunct whaling stations. Most were abandoned due to industrial decline or simply the sheer remoteness of their locations, but interestingly, many of them come back to life during summer months when former residents return for the holiday season. Click the links or thumbnail images below to explore four Faroe Islands ghost towns: Slættanes, Múli, Við Áir and Skarvanes.
