Urban Explorer Creates Ghostly Images in Abandoned Buildings

Even without added effects, abandoned buildings and places present stunning subjects for urbex photographers. But French urban explorer Bousure has gone a step further, adding a ghostly figure to these already haunting images captured inside an abandoned mansion.

“I like the mood of these places and the light inside”, Bousure, who first delved into urban exploration photography five years ago, told Urban Ghosts. “I don’t want to take only pictures from abandoned locations. I try [to] do something else with many kinds of staging”.

The images work on two levels. Like many urbex scenes, they underscore the ephemeral nature of man made spaces against the haunting backdrop of the abandoned mansion. But they also reflect the evanescent nature of our own existence, symbolised by the translucent figure in the photographs.

  • HDR is nicely used here, but always looks much better printed. For some reason it never renders as well on a screen. Would love to see all this work in a book, with the same eerie scenes.

Thanks for your message!  I agree with you about HDR and the need to be cautious with it.  As you say it’s done nicely in these photos and a book would be awesome!
