This former base turned aircraft graveyard is like a time capsule, a repository of corroding Cold War technology sitting derelict in the heart of Moscow’s redeveloping urban landscape. All around, stadiums and modern residential tower blocks are replacing the drab Russian military installations. Yet the aircraft, including various models of MiG and several helicopters, linger on, neglected but thankfully not vandalised to the extent one might expect of a modern aircraft graveyard. The photographer commented on the apparent lack of decommissioning, as if active aircraft were simply abandoned where they stood with no real concern over their potential hazards. Whether or not this is the case, urban explorers should tread carefully…
