The amazing “Tiger & Turtle – Magic Mountain” sculpture sits in Duisburg, Germany, reaching heights of more than 45m above ground. Designed to appear as a “walk-in” rollercoaster, visitors can access fantastic views of Western Ruhr by climbing the steep flights of stairs which make up this unique piece of art.

The interactive sculpture is the creation of artistic duo Heike Mutter and Ulrich Genth, constructed over a one year period. Open to the public from 13th November 2011, the sculpture is accessible day and night, lined with LED lights to make for a stunning view in the dark.

The sloping flights of stairs join together in the depths and heights of a traditional rollercoaster, at one point looping around in a full circle. The stairs continue through this part, although it is obviously inaccessible to visitors.

“Having a closer look [at this part], the public is disappointed in a disarming way,” said the artists of their work. “The sculpture subtly and ironically plays with the dialectic of promise and disappointment, mobility and standstill.”
