I agree Duncan! Only been scuba diving once but something I'd love to do more of - and this would be an awesome dive for sure. Definitely a good thing it's not in UK waters... You'd never see anything! Plus there are plenty of sunken warships around the UK anyway :)

Really interesting reading. The pictures are really impressive. I would love to go diving on a wreck like this. It would keep me interested for weeks diving on there. Anyone facy a diving holiday let me know :) At least diving conditions would be a tad warmer than here in the UK.

Cheers

I have an unusual photograph of the Oriskany. It is the SOVIET counterpart to the photo in this website where a Tupolev TU-95 RTs (Bear D) is shown shadowed by an F-8 from the Oriskany. Soviet Bears usually flew in pairs, and the photo I have was taken from the Bear that accompanied the one shown in this photo. The photo was taken on the same day, at practically the same time, and you can see this same TU-95, as well as the second F-8 (from which the photo here was taken). The note at the foot of the photo says:

"Wingman's Tu-95 RTs of the 304th ODRAP of the Naval Aviation of the Pacific Ocean Fleet, based at Horol’ AB, Primorskiy Kray, USSR, accompanied by two F-8 Crusaders overflying the USS Oriskany on its way to Vietnam. May 25th, 1974. (Photo taken from the left rear observation blister of the leading Tu-95 RTs)."

This photo, and many more like it, are part of a collage of photos from the article titled "From the Other Side of the Camera," which I will include in my forthcoming book "Chronicles of the Bear," a companion to my Historical Fiction novel "BEAR - Flight to Liberty." For more information, please contact me at the email address above.
